Not much has changed in terms of which regions are active, but one team has sprung to action and caused havoc in the South.
Life University played five games during back-to-back weekends, and returned to Marietta, Ga., with a 5-0 record. The Running Eagles took on Florida first, downing Florida International, South Florida and the senior Florida All-Stars 194-12 (read more). This last weekend, Life blanked UNC 102-0 and DI senior club Raleigh 34-7.
One will notice that UNC and FIU don’t reflect these losses in their records. Only league games are counted in teams’ records, but friendly results are certainly considered in the rankings. Teams like Life and Lindenwood are independent teams competing toward the DI Elite competition; therefore, their records are essentially all friendlies.
UC San Diego leapt over the idle UVA, as the Tritons added two wins on the road to its unblemished record. The Arizona road trip yielded a 35-19 win over the Sun Devils, and a 50-29 victory over the Wildcats.
Consequently, Arizona State fell off the rankings, while Chico State took its spot at #15. Chico State won the game of the season thus far (36-19 over Stanford) and then followed with a 29-12 win over Cal. Stanford was poised for a drop in the Top 15 but then put in a strong 19-12 win over Pacific Mountain West leader UC Davis (read more). The triumph wasn’t enough to overtake the Aggies, which have been dominating all year, while Stanford has struggled with consistency.
The next ranking will be made on March 7, and by then, many of the idle teams will have played their first games of the spring.
