Corning Rugby Club is relatively isolated in an otherwise busy rugby corner of the country. The girls’ high school team competes in Western New York, with the closest teams being 90 miles away up near Rochester. It’s actually closer to Pennsylvania, and a couple of players will cross the border to boot up with Lions. But Corning’s doing well, easily fielding full 15s rosters and taking opportunities farther from home. The push has paid off, and last weekend, Corning won its first Rugby New York Girls’ High School 15s Championship.
