The Atavus Women’s Performing 7s Resident Camp kicked off Aug. 16 in Glendale, Colo., and will culminate with an elite tournament against the Women’s Collegiate All-Americans (WCAAs) and club 7s champion Scion this weekend.

Fifty-five players have convened in Infinity Park, and the group skews young. Ranging from 17-32, the average player is close to 22 years old. Several athletes were on display during the recently concluded national club 7s championship, including Old Blue’s Tahlia Brody, ARPTC’s Sophie Pyrz, Youngbloodz’s Megan Wolff, and Seattle’s Nic Munson and Monae Hendrickson. At the top end of the experience spectrum is former 7s Eagle Dana Meschisi.

Also in Glendale is the 12-member WCAA 7s team, led by head coach Brandon Sparks. Kelsi Stockert will captain this weekend’s squad that also features club 7s championship competitors Kaitlyn Broughton (Old Blue), Stephanie Browne (Orlando), Macie Helgenberger (Glendale), Bulou Mataitoga (Berkeley) as well as Stockert.

Scion Rugby Academy founder and coach Joanne Lui remained in Colorado after the National Development Academy (NDA) won the club 7s title on Sunday, and has been assisting the Atavus camp. Due to logistical restraints, Scion is the only NDA that was able to budget the return trip to Colorado, however, a roster different from the championship squad will feature.
