The South Independent Rugby Conference (SIRC) enjoys a bye in between its quarterfinal and final four weekends, and so the DII league is using the opportunity to debut its first conference all-star team. Twenty-six players from 10 teams are represented and will play Life University on Sunday, March 12 in Marietta, Ga.

The SIRC All-Stars scrimmaged Life University in February, and coaches Kevin Corley and Laura Miller (also Life assistant coaches) used the camp and fixture to select the final squad. The DI Elite Running Eagles are affiliate members of SIRC and therefore allowed to send a capped number of players (four of which are underclassmen) to the all-star team.

The Life University lineup is very familiar. There is a lot of experience in the top 15, and also notable freshmen like Taylor Makowski and Alex Sedrick getting the start. Brittany Wilcox is also a familiar player, known as a major try-scorer for DI Florida International University. Also impressive, there are 10 states and two countries represented in the top 23.

The match will kick off at noon at the Lupo Family Field, site of the upcoming USA Rugby national championships in May. Following the 80-minute match, a 20-minute bonus period will be contested for the additional players on the rosters. Stay tuned for the post-match report.
