The U.S. Women’s Rugby Foundation (USWRF) invited approximately 50 women’s rugby advocates to Providence, R.I., to discuss the status and future of the sport. After two days of collaboration, a new advocacy group materialized – The U.S. Women’s Rugby Leadership Council (“Council”) – to further promote, develop and serve the women’s game. The Council will be housed by USWRF until the organizational structure is worked out. A small leadership group has begun working on the priorities identified at the Providence gathering, including building an organizational structure for the Council, building a membership base and creating a platform for communication. The Council will be reaching out to women coaches, administrators, referees and journalists in the coming months in an effort to create a vast networkof support.
