While most high schools play 7s or remain idle in the fall, this is the time of year when Wisconsin (and Michigan) contests its 15s league season and names its state champion. Wisconsin plays a series of friendlies this weekend and then kicks off league play on Sept. 14.

Two pools operate within Wisconsin, and then playoffs will see teams cross over. State champion Divine Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) leads Pool A and is the reigning single-school champion. The Dashers are joined by Oak Creek, Brookfield, Fox Co-op and Stevens Point, a new team that already has 25 players.

State runner-up Catholic Memorial, which finished fourth in the single-school championship, leads Pool B and is joined by Pulaski, a combination squad of Kettle Moraine and Vernon, DSHA’s B team, and new team Sussex Hamilton, which has already played a 15s scrimmage.

Middleton (aka Madtown Furies), a newer program in the Madison area, will play 7s and/or JV games where they are available and are not part of the full conference standings.

The state playoffs will begin Oct. 21 and held at the higher seed’s home pitch. The state championship will be contested Oct. 29 at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex, and all teams will participate.
