On February 5, The Rugby Breakdown (TRB) began a three-month pledge drive that would determine whether or not it would stay in business beyond May 5, 2018. For more background on that state of the site and its value as a resource for women’s rugby, read more.
One month in, 51 readers have stepped up and are now contributing anywhere from $1 to $20 per month in support of women’s rugby reportage. Add in 16 individual donations, and that’s a promising start to getting TRB financially stable. The goal is to match or exceed that rate of sign-ups the next two months, which should be doable considering this busy time of year.
How do those dollars translate? February’s income helped pay for a trip to the Las Vegas Invitational, where TRB covered the USA Falcons vs. Aussie Pearls, Youth Olympic Games qualifier, and the 7s competitions. Future income would ideally send TRB to the spring college championships (site still TBD) and Tennessee for the Girls’ National Invitational Tournament.
