The DI Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference (PMRC) is in between its regular season and playoffs, and so Stanford hosted its annual 7s tournament during the transition. Oregon State represented the PMRC North and joined four teams from the PMRC West. Four of the five participants will be active in the 15s playoffs that will also occur at Steuber Rugby Stadium.

Chico State, UC Davis, Stanford and Cal represented the PMRC West and Oregon State the PMRC North. After round robin play, the Wildcats defeated the Aggies 24-5 in the final, extending their success into the 7s season. Stanford finished third, having beat Oregon State 12-10 in the final round of play.

At present, the Stanford 7s tournament isn’t listed as an automatic qualifier for the USA Rugby College 7s National Championship. However, there are only three DI qualifiers listed on the event site, four for the DII championship, and the caveat that additional events may be deemed eligible as qualifiers.

The PMRC will reconvene in Palo Alto on April 7-8 and contest the conference seeding tournament to the USA Rugby DI College Spring Round of 16/8. Chico State has already secured the PMRC #1 seed after finishing 8-0 in the PMRC West, and the conference receives another three spots in the spring playoffs. The following matches will determine the three other representatives:

#2 1 p.m. Washington State (North #1) vs. UC Davis (West #3)
April 8
11 a.m. 4th Place: Loser #1 v Loser #2

The Rugby Breakdown will be present at the PMRC seeding tournament, as well as the April 21-22 spring playoffs that occur at Stanford. BYU (Provo, Utah) is the other western site for spring playoffs and will host a selection of PMRC teams. In the east, East Carolina and Life University are the host sites. The location for the women’s college spring championships (May 4-5) have not yet been announced by USA Rugby.
