CANTERBURY PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

UMBC’S TAHLIA TAVAI

There have been several noteworthy upsets early in the collegiate season, and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) is among the teams delivering unexpected scorelines. The team defeated DII spring semifinalist and reigning Capital champion Salisbury 35-19, a victory that thrust senior captain and No. 8 Tahlia Tavai into the spotlight as well.

 

RANKINGS

It is full-on rankings season, and the DI and DII colleges have their Top 20s sorted. Clubs will follow this upcoming week, and efforts are underway to coordinate an NSCRO rankings.

COLLEGE

There’s so much action in the college realm right now. Check out the weekend scores for an overview of each conference’s most recent results. Below is a smattering of news that occurred last week:

NSCRO has released its Round of 16 match-ups and sites, as well as the final four location: Life University’s state-of-the-art facility in Marietta, Ga. For more playoff details, click here.

Providence College highlights Rugby Northeast play, defeating Stonehill in the conference opener.

 

12 of 14 teams in the Mid-Atlantic conference were in motion; St. Joe’s puts in a solid performance.

 

Nothing’s changed for Midwest powerhouse Winona, starting the season with a shutout.

 

Big 10 update: Penn State and Notre Dame post shutouts.

 

Tri-State contenders Vassar and Albany go toe-to-toe.

 

CLUB

Beantown coach Kelly Seary speaks to the excitement building in Boston.

 

2016 club finalists Chicago North Shore and Wisconsin win in the DI Midwest.

 

Young and eager, undefeated Grand Rapids has DII post-season plans.

 

Glendale plays another tight WPL match, this time against the physical ORSU.
