Phoenix already knows it’s heading to nationals.

USA Rugby changed its seeding process for the women’s 2018 Club 7s National Championship. Read the full explanation here, but briefly: Each region receives at least one seed, and then subsequent seeds are based on the strength of each region, using the results from the previous three championships.

The site explains: To determine performance of each region, teams from previous events were awarded points that contributed to their region’s total. Those totals were then weighed by highest and lowest performers per region, and each region’s seed was ranked.

That process produced the following allocation of seeds:

Pacific North (ACR1): 3 Pacific South (ACR2): 1 Frontier (ACR3): 1 Red River (ACR4): 2

Midwest (NCR1): 2 South (ACR2): 2 Atlantic North (ACR3): 2 Mid-Atlantic (ACR4): 3

The following is not finalized, so keep an eye on this page for the latest. It’s a big step in the way of transparency. Now all we need to know is *where* the championship is being held.

Scoring of potential seeds/teams by region:1. Pacific North #1 – 44 pts2. Pacific South #1 – 41 pts3. Red River #1 – 41 pts4. Mid-Atlantic #1 – 40 pts5. Pacific North #2 – 37 pts6. Atlantic North #1 – 35 pts7. Pacific North #3 – 30 pts8. Midwest #1 – 28 pts9. Mid-Atlantic #2 – 26 pts10. Frontier #1 – 20 pts11. Midwest #2 – 17 pts12. South #1 – 15 pts13. Mid-Atlantic #3 – 12 pts14. Atlantic North #2 – 10 pts15. South #2 – 4 pts16. Red River #2 – 3.5 pts
