The Women’s CRC 7s has concluded day one of competition, and unsurprisingly, the top-three teams from the USA Rugby College 7s National Championship have set the standard, shutting out all competition thus far.
Reigning CRC 7s champion Life University won Pool A 152-0 over Drexel, Bloomsburg and Virginia Tech, which finished second with two shutouts of its own. Lindenwood won Pool B 126-0 over Delaware, Boston and UVA, and is coming off of USA Rugby 7s and DI Elite 15s national championship runs. The second Pool B Cup quarterfinal bid came down to the final Boston vs. UVA match, and the Terriers’ 20-15 victory afforded the berth. Penn State has scored the most points today – 167-0 – against Clemson, Kutztown and Navy, and is the only team to post a recent 7s victory over Lindenwood. There’s a nice hometown crowd pushing the Nittany Lions as well.
The NSCRO Selects also impressed in Pool D, winning its three games 82-7. The all-star squad played a tight 15-7 match against runner-up Notre Dame, which takes the second quarterfinal berth out of this pool.
On Saturday, all of the teams will play just one game: either a Cup or Challenge quarterfinal. And then on Sunday, final places will be determined.
