The Provo Steelers are not attending the high school club National Invitational Tournament (NIT) in Nashville, Tenn., this May. The trip would have been the Utah team’s first trip to the NIT.
The Utah team piqued interest when it tied reigning NIT club champion United 10-10 early in league play this spring, and then asserted itself when it beat Fallbrook at the NorCal Invitational, before falling to South Bay in the final: Read more.
But now it seems that finances and 14 seniors graduating within 24 hours of the NIT are preventing the trip east. We’re still waiting on an update from the high school club division of the NIT, which was struggling to retain eight teams (at last check) with the absence of most west coast teams. The exception is South Bay. The single-school division of the NIT has built out to 16 teams. More to come.
