10 Rugby Teams @ Stanford Playoff Site

Stanford is one of four sites hosting the DI Elite / DI Spring and DII Spring regional championships. There are only two DII conferences in the west that compete toward the spring championship, and so a full Round of 16 could not be fulfilled. Instead, two teams receive byes through the first round, six teams report to Stanford, and none to BYU (the other western site).

So to translate the above schedule: The 9 a.m. (Claremont vs. Sacramento St.) and 11 a.m. (Long Beach St. vs. Nevada) games are DII Spring Round of 16 matches, and the winners advance to Sunday’s spring quarterfinal at 11 a.m. The 5 p.m. Fresno State vs. UC Irvine match is actually a DII Spring quarterfinal, as both teams receive byes through the first round. That means that Fresno State is the top-ranked team in the west, and both the Bulldogs and UCI will play just one game that weekend. The winner advances to the DII Spring semifinals in Fullerton, Calif.

The DI Elite / DI Spring games are self explanatory, unless you’re unfamiliar with the set-up generally. Teams from these two tiers all compete in the Round of 16 together. Day-one losers are out of the competition; however, all eight winners will advance to Fullerton, Calif. Those eight teams are divided on Sunday, as the quarterfinal winners reroute to the DI Elite National Championship semifinals, and the quarterfinal losers advance to the DI Spring semifinals.

Will post the Life, BYU, East Carolina schedules as they’re circulated.
