This year’s NIT occurs at Middle Tennessee State University in Mufreesboro, located 35 miles outside of Nashville. The high school clubs play Friday-Saturday, May 18-19, and the single schools play Saturday-Sunday, May 19-20. Divine Savior Holy Angels in the reigning NIT champion for single schools, and United (Utah) is the 2017 titleholder for high school clubs.
So far there are three new teams registered in the single-school bracket: North Carolina champion South Mecklenberg, New York’s City Honors and local side Columbia County of Tennessee. Tournament organizers are looking for two more teams to fill out the brackets.
The single-school NIT is already at its biggest since the competition split into High School and High School Club. The previous two years, both of the Division II brackets only included four teams, and now the single schools are at six.
