Mid-America All-Stars against Lindenwood University
Last weekend, the Mid-America Women’s All-Stars played a warm-up match against DI Elite Lindenwood and are now readying for their second road trip of the fall. On Nov. 17, Mid-America will travel to Grand Prairie, Texas, for two games against the senior Texas Rugby Union all-stars.

Collegians and senior club players within the Mid-America Geographic Union are eligible for all-star selection, and head coach Anna Kunkel got a first look at the player pool on Sept. 9. Assistant coaches Kathryn Zahn (forwards) and Jay Brewer (backs) aided the tryout and helped pick 31 players for the Lindenwood match. The Lions won 29-0, but the coaching staff was pleased with the back-and-forth nature of the match and the team’s ability to create turnover ball.
“Despite the score, the Mid-America team made some real strides this weekend,” Zahn praised. “After only having one tryout and one practice together as a team, these women learned quickly, adapted to each other, and the coaches saw a lot of improvements this weekend. Playing a high-performing team like Lindenwood was an excellent test for this new Mid-America team, and we have high hopes going into the all-star event.”

Twenty-eight players from 11 colleges and senior clubs have been selected for the upcoming trip to Texas. The athletes hail from Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.
“We are excited to play the Texas Women’s All-Star team again this year after the one-point loss to them at the all-star tourney last year,” Kunkel enthused. “The Lindenwood event was a great way for the team to come together and determine what our strengths are and what we need to work on before the all-star event.”
