Rocky Mountain Rebels at the 2016 NAI 7s

The Rocky Mountain Rebels are returning to the North American Invitational (NAI) 7s in Salt Lake City, and the select side program based in Colorado is sending one girls’ and two boys’ teams. The girls’ squad will join the six-team U18 Elite division that includes all-star squads and one stand-alone club.

The 14-player squad includes representatives from five teams and 10 high schools. Leading the way are senior captains Moira Dillow and Madison Lane. Dillow represents Fort Collins and is fierce on both sides of the ball, according to Rebels coach Darryl Lane. Madison, daughter of coach Lane, was named to the 2016 NAI 7s All-Tournament Team, so watch for her to stand out from the scrumhalf position and off the tee.

Summit’s Jodi Losch is a well known entity, having earned Girls’ High School All-American honors in summer 2016. Keep tabs on Madison Hadden as well. She has elusive speed and will be a leading try-scorer. Additionally, basketball crossovers Jaden and Sydney Congdon from Mullen High School have phenomenal ball-handling skills, so watch for this duo to connect well with teammates.

The girls’ Rebels program is only in its second year, but it can already laud the successes of alumnae like Emma Shipton and Carson Hann. Shipton just finished her freshman year at NIRA champion Quinnipiac University, and Hann will be joining her on rugby scholarship this fall. Ivy Richards and Selena Tuilaepa, who will be competing in Salt Lake City, are also heading to college this fall. They’ll join DI Elite national championship runner-up Lindenwood University.

Games begin Friday, Aug. 5 at 10:20 a.m. Mountain. Each team will play each other once during the round robin, and then the top-two teams will play for first, third- and fourth-best for 3rd place, and fifth- and sixth-place teams for 5th on Saturday.
