Collegeville, PA – Rugby Pennsylvania, the governing body for youth and high school rugby in the state, is proud to announce the launch of an innovative initiative called “Emerging Girls Rugby.” Designed to promote and develop girls’ rugby in high schools across Pennsylvania, this program aims to establish rugby clubs in 25 schools statewide. Once this milestone is achieved, Rugby Pennsylvania plans to apply for emerging sport status with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
As interest in girls’ rugby continues to grow rapidly, Rugby Pennsylvania recognizes the importance of providing opportunities for young female athletes to excel in this exhilarating sport. Emerging Girls Rugby aims to tap into this potential and empower girls across the state to embrace rugby’s values of teamwork, discipline, comradery, and respect.
The initiative will focus on fostering the growth and development of high school girls’ rugby programs, providing them with the resources, guidance, and support necessary to establish successful teams. Rugby Pennsylvania will work closely with schools, community partners, and interested individuals to ensure the smooth implementation of rugby programs in high schools throughout the state.

When there are 25 girls’ rugby programs operating under the Emerging Girls Rugby initiative, Rugby Pennsylvania will ambitiously apply for emerging sport status from the PIAA. This recognition will solidify rugby’s position as an important and competitive athletic option for high school girls in the state. With support from the PIAA, Emerging Girls Rugby can further expand its reach, making it more accessible to young athletes statewide.
“Together with this new initiative, we are thrilled to pave the way for girls’ rugby to flourish within Pennsylvania high schools,” said Dylan Hamilton, Executive Director of Rugby Pennsylvania. “Emerging Girls Rugby aims to provide a level playing field for aspiring female athletes, offering them a chance to thrive in an inclusive and empowering sporting environment. We encourage all high schools across Pennsylvania to join us on this exciting journey.”
