Seriously, WTF

It’s now Thursday, May 3 – the day before the final fours for the DI Elite National Championship, DI Spring College Championship and DII Spring College Championship – and there is no promotion out of USA Rugby. The May 4-5 event at CSU Fullerton features three women’s college events and one men’s college final, and all of these competitions are administered by USA Rugby (in contrast to NSCRO or NIRA championships, for example).

The effect is one of apathy. USA Rugby has been making sure we wish various Eagles “happy birthday” this past week but couldn’t cobble together a belated playoff bracket? Or interview any of the college teams that are flying from as far as Maryland, Pennsylvania, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, etc., to be in California for their culminating performances of the year?

I feel for the players and staff who have been building toward this double-header in SoCal and can only hope USA Rugby doesn’t award last year’s trophy to victors – it’s happened before, ask Davenport. I also hope women’s rugby supporters are equally outraged and value The Rugby Breakdown for its dedicated coverage: read more.
