GLENDALE, Colo. – USA Rugby High Performance Pathways has opened applications for two virtual national academies to develop Halfbacks and Flyhalves. Both academies begin in January of 2021 with an annual curriculum designed to develop the nation’s top men’s and women’s players across both positions.

A total of six men’s and six women’s players will be selected for each academy. Applications are open now until December 23, 2020. The Halfbacks Academy will be led by recently retired USA Men’s Eagle Shaun Davies while the flyhalves are led by fellow Eagle Tadhg Leader. General Manager of High Performance Pathways, JD Stephenson, will oversee both programs as a whole.

Stephenson said:

“A successful halves combination is vital to the success of any side. More importantly, however, is the accelerated development of domestic American players in these roles from an early age. While the Academy won’t replace elite competition and minutes played, which is vital to the player’s development, it provides a year-long virtual development journey that puts potential Eagles in good stead for Rugby World Cups 2023, 2025 and beyond.”
