USMA Seeks Asst Coach

The U.S. Military Academy (“Army”) is hiring an assistant coach for its varsity women’s rugby program. All interested candidates must apply through this NCAA job application link. and do so before the Friday, July 31 deadline.

Army is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA), the country’s league for NCAA varsity rugby programs. The Black Knights finished second to Harvard in the 2019 Tier 1 NIRA National Championship.


Position Summary

The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach by coaching Cadet-Athletes, recruiting, monitoring Cadet-Athletes academic progress, scheduling, managing travel, overseeing the discipline and conduct of the Cadet-Athletes. This position reports to the Head Coach. All the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of USMA, AWPAA, NIRA and the NCAA.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Assistant Coach will aid the Head Coach with instruction of skills to Cadet-Athletes, plan and attend practice sessions, matches, workouts, and conditioning sessions, the recruitment of qualified perspective student athletes to the United States Military Academy, provide a positive education environment for all team members, assist with any approved camps, clinics, exhibitions, and campus activities, help with administrative tasks delegated, and any other duties assigned by the Head Coach. The Assistant Coach will be expected to promote the philosophy and objectives of Army West Point Athletic Association, adhere to and enforce all Departmental policies and procedures, and to abide by regulations set forth by the United States Military Academy, NIRA, and the NCAA.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 1-3 years of collegiate coaching experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse settings, both on campus and in the community.
  • Ability to provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of staff and cadet-athletes.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and written.
  • Ability to commit to the highest ethical standards.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to weather elements during outdoor events.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays. 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to perform duties in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment that may require medium lifting at times.
