This week is a popular one for elite assemblies, and all levels of the game are engaged. While the Women’s Eagles and All-American hopefuls overtake Salt Lake City, there is a concurrent U-18 residents camp occurring in Carlsbad, Calif. Atavus runs USA Rugby Academy’s Performing Resident Camp and selected 24 athletes from around the country for the high-performance experience.
The Performing Resident Camp differs from the Emerging Resident Camps (there are two, east and west) in that high-potential athletes were invited to the assembly or vetted through an application process. These campers will be offered additional playing opportunities and exposure in the future, including possible selection to Atavus 7s and 15s All-Star teams.
There is a range of experience at the Army and Navy Academy complex, ranging from Girls High School All Americans, to Atlantis U16 founding members, to 7s-only players, and regulars at high school club national championships. And with the exception of the South, there is good representation across the country.
