DII Club Season Resumes

DII club competitions in Florida, Pacific South and Red River played their first league games of the 2018 season, while NorCal contested week 2.

FLORIDA217 DII South champion Fort Miami defeated Orlando 57-10 in a game marked by many yellow cards. Kristi Schnepp led try-scorers with three, while recent Girls’ High School All-American Morgan Freeman added two. Tatum Walker (penalty try), Rakayyah Peters, Simone Lumsden and Life University grad Christina Swift scored one apiece, and Marie Zeoli kicked five conversions. Orlando scored both of its tries (Sarah Rae, Shontavia House) during sin bin advantages.

Jacksonville shut out Tampa Krewe 81-0 Saturday. Daniela Charry, Erin Fields, Asia Bell and Samantha Norman scored two tries apiece, and Alana Schaff, Kristen Kent, Stacey Nemeth, Mary Blizzard and Javiera Oliva scored one apiece. Fields added six conversions and Melissa Newkirk two.

Week two sees Orlando host Jacksonville and Fort Miami travel Indian River.

NORCAL

Sacramento extended its winning streak with a 79-22 win over Santa Rosa. Nine different Amazons scored tries and recent UC Davis graduate Tonya Wessman dotted down six times. Diana Nguyen, Anne Fehrenbach, Anysia Avila, Elizabeth Danielson, Jocelyn Barrios, Ofolangi Mailangi, Margaret Scott and Rosemary Kloh scored five points each, while Amanda Groza and Rachel Gonzales kicked the extras.

Despite the lopsided scoreline, Santa Rosa kept pushed through the final quarter to get that bonus point for four-plus tries scored. Outside center Jessie Hill-Koroitamama dotted down three tries, and No. 8 Jessica Carroll accounted for the fourth.

San Francisco Golden Gate got its first league win of the season, defeating Berkeley 31-17. Familiar entities like Sara Maurer and Ros Okpara crossed for tries, while flyhalf Lindsay Kinsler connected on three conversions. Ceara Lafferty scored two of the All Blues’ tries and Maja Wichrowska added the third.

In week three, Life West DII will play its first game of the season against Santa Rosa.

PACIFIC SOUTH

RED RIVER

San Antonio beat a light Tulsa 31-5 in the DII league. Former Norwich All-American Hannah Bell led with 11 points on a try and three conversions, while Marie Timm scored two tries. Rebekkah Portlock and Aida Gutierrez also scored. Shavonna Rucker accounted for Tulsa’s five points.

Austin Valkyries’ DII side defeated the Dallas Reds 69-17. Tessa Dennis and Meekyoung Lee scored three tries apiece while Autumn Farris (2), Kathleen Todesco, Kristi Ritchie and Julia Fortkort also dotted down. Fortkort (6) and Caitlin Reedy added the two-pointers. Fullback Destiny Corrales scored two of Dallas’ tries and inside center Shenelle Peart added the third.

Week 2 matches: Austin vs. Dallas Athletic, Little Rock vs. Tulsa, San Antonio vs. Dallas.​
