Indy Speed @ Midwest Invitational

Indy Speed is Indiana’s state all-star team, and the program is active for a second consecutive weekend. The team competed at the Midwest All-Star Challenge in Elkhart, Ind., last weekend and now readies for the Midwest Regional Cup Tournament (RCT) in Cottage Grove, Wisc. The RCT series is a core component of USA Rugby’s talent identification process of high schoolers and also serve as a showcase for college recruiters.

Indy Speed head coach Masie Duncan took two teams to Elkhart last Sunday, with its “varsity” side defeating Allegheny 26-15 and losing to Illinois 36-10. The JV team played two close games against Ohio Celtic.

This weekend, Indy Speed is bringing a full Tier 1 (juniors and seniors) to the RCT and a smaller Tier 2 (sophomore and freshmen) side that will require some borrowed players or 7s/10s. Players hail from Avon (39 CIPPed players), Brownsburg (24), Fishers (47), Noblesville (33), North Central (69), Penn (40), Pike (27), Warsaw (33) and Westfield (29).

Joining Indy Speed in the Tier 1 competition are Wisconsin, Minnesota, Celtic Elite and Illinois. Both Wisconsin and Celtic Elite also have Tier 2 sides. For the full RCT schedule, click here.
