Club 7s Nationals Cancelled

USA RUGBY – USA Rugby today announced the cancellation of the 2020 Club 7s National Championship that was slated for early August. Due to social restrictions and health orders related to COVID-19, the ability to host the tournament and preceding nationwide qualifiers was not feasible.

The USA Rugby Events Department and leadership were afforded time to review Club 7s given the late summer scheduling, however as COVID-19 timelines are projected and elements considered; the difficult decision to cancel was determined. The high attendance of athletes with sevens tournaments and cross-state travel over a number of qualifying weekends presented compliance issues with diverse regional health mandates.

Moving forward, as the sevens rugby season gets underway, teams and clubs are permitted to engage in local sevens activities in line with permission of local health officials and guided by the USA Rugby Return to Play Guidelines. While potential versions of play might be acceptable through the summer, no sanctioned national championship will occur.
