This morning we published the DII Fall College Rankings and noted that Colorado Mesa had a solid season-opener in the Rocky Mountain conference. But if you check out the league’s CMS, the standings reflect that Mesa is 4-0, and that Idaho State and Northern Colorado – two of the four teams – have forfeited league matches.

“Our DII conference is essentially down to Mines and Mesa with ISU not having enough players – or a coach to my knowledge – and UNC being short players, but at least offering to play tens,” Rocky Mountain conference commissioner Ed McKenna wrote. “Thus, Mines and Mesa have reworked their schedules to be able to compete for a spot at [fall] championships.

“[Mines coach] Dan [Roder] and [Mesa coach] Mack [Lewis] have put in a ton of work to get their programs to their current level, but, unfortunately, these fluctuations with other programs happen,” added McKenna, who is also head coach for DI Montana State.

Here’s the remainder of Colorado Mines’ and Colorado Mesa’s schedule:

9/21 Mesa v DI BYU B

9/23 Mines @ DI Wyoming

9/29 Mines v Denver Black Ice B

9/30 Round Robin: Mesa, DI Air Force B, DI Colorado State B, Western State (NSCRO)

10/7 Mines @ Colorado B

10/12 Mesa @ Colorado College (NSCRO)

10/20 Mesa @ Mines
