The USA Rugby DI College Spring Championship bracket is set: read more.

The DII spring bracket has not been released so we’re summing up the events of last weekend:

– Fresno State beat Saint Mary’s College in the West Coast final, 50-21 (read more). Fresno will play Long Beach State in the spring Round of 16, and SMC will play Claremont College. This group is confirmed for Irvine.

John Brown beat Kansas State 39-22 in the Mid-America final. Both head to regionals, presumably in Little Rock.

John Brown led Kansas State 29-5 at the half, as Alexis Barnes (3), Danielle Argueta and Mo Quarles all dotted down and Mary Freeman kicked two conversions. K-State scored first in the second half, and then the eventual victor answered by putting Olivia Maxwell and Bridget Schneider away for tries, 39-10 heading into the fourth quarter. K-State did well to keep pushing and was rewarded with two tries, 39-22 the final.

– The Carolinas championship was not contested, as College of Charleston forfeited to Coastal Carolina due to numbers. Thus, Coastal Carolina advances to regionals uncontested. The conference was supposed to send multiple teams but that’s unlikely given the league’s ending. A shame considering that East Carolina is hosting two pools.

Already qualified:

  • SIRC’s Tulane and UGA
  • Florida’s Eckerd College
  • Capital’s Salisbury, George Washington and William & Mary.

“Worst case” scenario, there are four vacancies that need to be replaced among the three eastern pools in order to fill a Spring Round of 16.
