Last week, TRB provided status updates on conferences building toward the USA Rugby DII College Fall Championship (read more). The following lists those teams that have already booked their spots in the Nov. 16 wild card round and the upcoming matches that will fill out the rest of the bracket. USA Rugby has not yet circulated a bracket for the post-season, which begins in fewer than three weeks.

PLAYOFFS BOUND

  • Allegheny: 1. Indiana Univ. of Pennsylvania, 2. Youngstown State
  • Great Lakes: 1. Grand Valley State (see notes below)
  • New England Wide: 1. Coast Guard Academy, 2. Hartford, 3. TBD (notes below)
  • Northern Lights: Mankato, Winona State (seeds TBD Nov. 2)
  • Upstate NY: 1. Cortland, 2. RIT

PLAYOFFS IN PROGRESS

GREAT LAKES

The word out of this conference is that league leadership is in flux and it’s been very difficult to get concrete information out of this Michigan-Ohio competition. Grand Valley State has secured the top seed and championship – the Lakers are undefeated with one more game to go – but even Bowling Green State, which finished two points short of GVSU has received no information of “next steps” beyond Nov. 2. Updates to come when available.

NEW ENGLAND WIDE

Coast Guard and Hartford played their final regular-season game against each other (the Bears won 62-27) and finished first and second, respectively, in the standings. They were slated to face each other again this weekend for the conference championship, but Hartford forfeited due to injuries. The conference allowed the forfeit and so Coast Guard gets the title and top seed to regionals, and Hartford gets the second seed. The conference also receives a third seed to the Round of 32 (Nov. 16), and so Vermont and Maine should play each other on Nov. 2 for the berth.
