Round 2 of the DI College Spring Ranking is still considering how much game time teams are banking. The learning curve is steep early in the season, and so that influenced some moves this week.

Claremont and Fresno State are performing pretty consistently at this point, and they’ve both banked more field time than Tulane, which played a closer game to unranked Alabama. We’re eager to see how the team looks this weekend against UT Chattanooga, which played a mixed friendly at Life and drew praise from several observers. It’s still very early in the Green Wave’s season so the team certainly has time and room to grow.

Several teams were idle, either enjoying a scheduled bye week, lamenting a forfeit win, or sticking to practice pitches as the east coast weather attempts to warm up. The game of the weekend was found in the Carolinas conference, where Coastal Carolina rallied to beat College of Charleston 27-26 (report to come). That result saw Coastal enter the rankings one spot above Charleston. Both teams get a rest this weekend.

Eastern Washington was forced out of the 15th spot, but we’ll revisit the Cascade team once it plays a game this spring.

Eckerd College took a tough loss to Central Florida, the 2018 DI spring runner-up, and we anticipate its match against Florida State will be the Sirens’ best barometer.

This weekend we’re looking at the John Brown vs. Kansas State game to tell us more about those two teams and the league generally. UN Reno will hopefully get to play Santa Clara, which started last weekend’s game with 14 players.
