The Midwest Rugby Union started contesting 2027 league games on Aug. 22, and this weekend’s matches mark round four. The following is a roundup of the five pools (listed in alphabetical order) that are nearly halfway through the regular season and pointing toward playoffs. The post-season begins with Oct. 31 quarterfinals, Nov. 7 semifinals and Nov. 14 finals.

CHICAGO AREA (CARFU) was off last week, but County Will and Palmer College won their first round games. The Morrigans topped Fox Valley 50-20 back on Aug. 29, and got a leading performance from captain and inside center Christina Kukla, who scored 14 points on two tries and two conversions. Palmer College beat the Chicago Sirens 78-10 as well. Flyhalf Amber Santana accounted for 21 points on eight conversions and a try, while fullback Rylee Blake and prop Heather Ritchie dotted down three tries apiece.
This Saturday, County Will plays Palmer College, and Chicago Sirens see Fox Valley.
In CENTRAL, Circle City (2-0) kicked off the season on Aug. 22 with a 91-15 win against Cincinnati Kelts and then followed up with a 78-12 win against Fort Wayne (2-1). Of the 14 tries scored last Saturday, wing Ayla Howery and No. 8 Tiara Mason accounted for three apiece. Vice captain and flyhalf Deisdy Rodriguez, who also scored a try, and inside center Shayla Meinders (3) handled the conversions.
Fort Wayne was 2-0 heading into that Round 3 match, having beat Dayton 49-10 and Cincinnati Kelts 63-19 in August. Subsequently, the Kelts forfeited their Sept. 5 match against the 2-0 Cincinnati Wolfhounds, which logged its first win of the season against Dayton, 74-5

This Saturday, it’s Cincinnati Wolfhounds vs. Circle City, and Cincinnati Kelts vs. Dayton.
In DII EASTERN, Cleveland improved 2-0 after shutting out Toledo 108-0 last Saturday. In August, the Iron Maidens beat the Pittsburgh Forge 60-20. Fullback Ashley Fleck led try-scorers with four, while scrumhalf Brooke Barnes kicked 26 points on 13 conversions.
The Forge have been at it every weekend and currently sit at 2-1. In August, the Pennsylvania side beat Toledo 107-5, lost to Cleveland, and then rebounded Saturday with a 50-12 against Akron. Wing Ashton White led all point scorers with 15 on a try and five conversions.
This Saturday, it’s Cleveland vs. Columbus, and Akron vs. Toledo.

In the NORTHERN pool, South Buffalo improved to 2-0 after a 67-12 win against Rochester. In August, the team shut out North Buffalo 120-0. Fullback Shannon Wypij led the way with 35 points on four tries, six conversions and a penalty kick.
Buffalo is 2-1, having lost its Aug. 22 opener 24-20 to Rochester before rallying with a 45-0 win against Uticuse on Aug. 22, followed by a 48-12 win against North Buffalo on Saturday. Scrumhalf Colleen Benack accounted for 16 points on two tries and three conversions, and flyhalf Erica Billoni dotted down three tries.

And finally the DII Midwest WESTERN pool saw two lopsided results on the weekend. Metropolis (2-1) beat Minneapolis (0-2) 74-26 and saw outside center Oshana Reich lead with five tries scored. Fullback and captain Emily Granville and wing Haley Andreasen scored two tries apiece, while inside center Isabelle Currie (4) and flyhalf Grace Blaisdell (3) split kicking duties. The Menagerie earned a bonus point for tries scored in the loss.
Milwaukee Syclla improved to 2-0 after a 55-14 win against Wisconsin (2-1). Four players scored two tries apiece: scrumhalf Maisey Clausen, wing Rebecca Dombrowski, flanker Emily Groth and outside center Claire Tomashek, who also kicked a conversion. Hooker Kyla Baumann kicked four conversions. Wisconsin took a forfeit win against Metropolis in round one and followed with a 78-21 win against the Menagerie.
This Saturday is Metropolis vs. Milwaukee, and Oconomowoc (0-2) vs. Minneapolis.
