Fixtures & Results: Sept 1-5

Last weekend, senior clubs started scrimmaging for the impending fall 15s season, but this week sees leagues contest their first regular-season matches. NIRA dominates the lineup this weekend, but there are also two Midwest senior club games this Saturday. Additionally, the Allianz Premier 15s kicks off in the U.K., and 10 U.S. Eagles have signed contracts to the overseas pro league.

All of the DI NCAA varsity programs are in action this week. Dartmouth College hosts Long Island University, which has a new coach in Jinnie Pratt for its first all-DI season, and the 11 a.m. EST match is available on ESPN+. Also on Wednesday, Sept. 1, two new NIRA programs play a cross-divisional match, as DIII Manhattanville College makes the short trip to DII Univ. New Haven. [Update: Flash flood warnings push the game to Monday, Sept 6 @ 1 p.m.]

Friday sees two evening matches, the first from the two DI Connecticut teams: Quinnipiac University at Sacred Heart University for a 4 p.m. kickoff. Then at 7 p.m., Mount St. Mary’s University in its first season playing an all-DI schedule travels to reigning national champion Harvard University, a game that will be available on ESPN+.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, 2019 DI runner-up Army and Brown kick off in Providence, R.I., while Queens University of Charlotte heads to Lander University for a DII showdown. A DIII match between the Univ. New England and Colby-Sawyer College, which has a new head coach in Ed McKenna, will follow at 1 p.m.

Finally, NIRA newcomer Adrian College, which built momentum through 7s during the 2020-21 school year, will host CRAA DI Big 10’s Univ. Michigan in a friendly. Stay tuned for follow-ups.
