Princeton, NJ — Princeton University Women’s Rugby Football Club’s Head Coach Chris Ryan has officially announced the return of Phaidra Knight to his staff for the 2016 fall season.

“It’s a privilege to return to Princeton this fall,” said Knight. “Thus far, the ladies have impressed me with massive gains in their skill and fitness levels since last fall. I welcome the opportunity to provide further guidance and nurture the development of these outstanding student athletes in an effort to strengthen Ivy League competition. I am very grateful to Chris, Emil [Signes], and the entire Princeton University rugby family.”

A graduate of Alabama State University, Knight began her playing career while attending law school at the University of Wisconsin. She received her JD in 1999.

“We are very excited to have Phaidra this fall,” said Ryan. “Her positivity and intensity have been very well received by the team. She offers great value to our organization with her vast experience. I look forward to her growth and continued integration into the Princeton University rugby family.”

Knight brings tremendous international experience to the Tigers. A member of the USA National Team since 1999, she played both 7s and 15s and received 34 caps in 15s. She represented the U.S. in three (2002, 2006 and 2010) World Cups and was recognized as the top player in her position at the conclusion of two of them. In 2010 Knight was named “Player of the Decade” by Rugby Magazine.

Knight currently plays with the New York Rugby Club of the Women’s Premier League. The Princeton University Women’s Rugby team was established in 1979. It competes in Division I of the Ivy League.
