Plenty of rugby in all of its varieties kept the U.S. in motion last weekend. The following is a quick summary of events and results, but stay tuned for follow-up interviews, in addition to some belated coverage on girls’ high school champions and the Mexican-American program that is playing 7s and 15s at home and abroad. Message Jackie Finlan with updates/corrections.

WER

Women’s Elite Rugby, the country’s professional 15s league, played all of its Week 7 games on Sunday. Standings leaders Bay Area and Denver improved to 6-1, as the Breakers beat Boston (1-6) 57-19, and the Onyx beat the Exiles (2-5) 42-14. TC Gemini (5-2) banked a bonus-point win against Midwest rival Chicago Tempest (1-6), making for a nice race among the top three teams in the competition.

The league gets a three-week break, resuming after the holiday weekend, on July 11. There are three more regular-season rounds to go, all of which will be played in July, and then the Legacy Cup is meant to be contested in mid-late August. However, no details on the semifinals and championship event have been released.

U23 ALL-STARS

After years of 2nd and 3rd-place finishes, the Midwest Thunderbirds won their first U23 all-star 15s title. The team beat the Mid-Atlantic 47-7 and Pacific South 45-5 on day one, and then in a rematch of the 2025 final, defeated the Rocky Mountain Peaks 42-38 in the final. See full results. Stay tuned for interviews with captain Annie Henrich and MVP Ava Reuter.
