No Fall Rugby for PNW Clubs

Pacific Northwest geographic union (GU) president Jill Williamson announced (text below) that the three-state region (Idaho, Oregon, Washington) would not contest league games in the fall. Traditionally, the club league is split between the fall and spring.

It is with sadness in our hearts that the PNRFU Board of Directors is announcing the cancellation of the fall season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With most of the counties in our tri-state area still months away from USAR Return to Play Stage 5 it does not seem realistic to plan matrix matches for the Fall Season.

PNRFU will continue to support clubs as they move through the Return to Play stages. If you have questions about the Return to Play guidelines, or need assistance developing your Return to Play plan, please contact Mitch Castro (mitch@pnrfu.org).

We will also be continuing to find ways to support competition.

We have two competitive opportunities lined up:

1. PNRFU Rock Paper Scissors Contest: From the creators of PNRFU Survivor, we are excited to present the most epic Rock Paper Scissors competition in PNRFU history. The competition will take place on September 1st so stay tuned more information and mark your calendars! Prizes! Fun! Cutthroat Competition!!

2. Touch Rugby: For clubs eligible for Return to Play stage 4 (and where local law applies), PNRFU will provide clubs with support to organize a touch rugby competition. (Currently only Thurston County, WA is eligible for R2P stage 4). We hope that touch rugby will provide opportunities for training, competition, revenue generation and fun until we can return to our regular competition. Look for more information shortly, and feel free to reach out to Mitch if you have questions, or want to get started.

We look forward to seeing you all on the pitch soon. In the meantime, stay safe.
