(PORTLAND – Nov. 8, 2024) – Premier Rugby Sevens (PR7s) today announced that Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team, silver medalists in the Paris 2024 Olympics, will join the PR7s All-Star Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 17 at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. The addition sets up a highly anticipated matchup between the silver medal-winning Canadian women and the bronze medal-winning USA women’s team.
“Welcoming the Canadian women’s team to the PR7s All-Star Tournament brings an exciting new dimension to this highly anticipated event,” said Owen Scannell, CEO and founder of Premier Rugby Sevens. “We’re thrilled to partner with both USA Rugby and Rugby Canada to celebrate Olympic medalists that captivated fans during the Paris Olympics.”
The historic event marks Team USA’s first rugby competition on home soil since Paris. The U.S. and Canadian women, in addition to the U.S. men, will compete against their counterparts from the PR7s All-Stars, which features past Olympians, legends of the game, and other top players. As the highest professional level of rugby sevens in the United States, PR7s had 43 men and women athletes compete in the Paris Olympics across 11 teams worldwide.
“We are looking forward to participating in the PR7s All-Star Tournament against the USA and in preparation for the upcoming 2026 HSBC SVNS series,” said Jocelyn Barrieau, Head Coach of Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team. “We will face some great competition in what will be our program’s first tournament post-Paris 2024. Everyone is excited to get on the pitch and continue to show how women’s rugby is growing in North America.”
The Olympic rugby matches this past summer captivated fans worldwide, with sold-out crowds of over 66,000 in Paris. Canada’s silver medal marked a historic achievement, spotlighting the talent and dedication of its women’s team and reinforcing North America’s position in the global rugby landscape.
