PMRC Announces Playoff Structure

The Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference (PMRC) is diversifying its post-season offerings this season. Teams in the North and West divisions will be funneled into Tier 1 and Tier 2 competitions, and thus prolong their seasons with crossover matches at two different locations.

PMRC North: Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Western Washington

PMRC West: Cal, Chico State, Fresno State, Stanford, UC Davis

Tier 1 involves the top three teams from the PMRC West and the top PMRC North team. The quartet will meet on April 4-5 at Stanford University’s Steuber Rugby Stadium (667 Masters Mall, Palo Alto, CA 94305):

TIER 1 PLAYOFFS

April 4, 2020

12 p.m. Match 1: West #1 v West #3

2 p.m. Match 2: North #1 v West #2

April 5, 2020

12 p.m. Match 3: Loser Match 1 v Loser Match 2

2 p.m. Match 4: Winner Match 1 v Winner Match 2

PMRC #1 = Winner of Match 4 (moves on to USA Rugby round of 8)

PMRC #2 = Loser of Match 4 (moves on to USA Rugby round of 8)

For the first time in the conference’s existence, the league will also offer Tier 2 playoffs, which will occur in either Oregon or Washington. Tier 2 will be confirmed should the requisite teams commit by March 9:

2 p.m. Match 2: North #2 v West #5

April 5, 2020

12 p.m. Match 3: Loser Match 1 v Loser Match 2

2 p.m. Match 4: Winner Match 1 v Winner Match 2

After the PMRC playoffs, the competition moves into spring regionals. The DI Spring Round of 8/4 will occur April 17-19, and the western portion of the bracket will unfold in NorCal. The DI spring championship will occur the weekend of May 2-3 at TBD location.
