Princeton Seeks Varsity Head Coach

The Princeton University Women’s Rugby Football Club (PUWRFC) is transitioning into an NCAA varsity program and seeking a full-time head coach (job posting) to guide that process and more. The Tigers will compete in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association, the competition for NCAA varsity teams, in fall 2022.

Princeton holds two national titles, has produced 35 USA Rugby All-Americans, and has a tradition of dedicated, competitive, and intelligent athletes from myriad backgrounds. In 15s, Princeton boasts two national titles, three national 2nd place finishes, two national 3rd place finishes, and 12 Ivy League championships. Since the Collegiate 7s National Championship started in 2011, Princeton has earned a spot at every championship except one and the Tigers have earned four 3rd place finishes.

Overview

The mission of Princeton University Department of Athletics is to strive for excellence in academics and athletics, while embracing equity in opportunity, good sportsmanship, and ethical conduct. In keeping with this mission, the role of the Head Coach of Women’s Rugby is to provide a quality program which will challenge and develop the physical, mental and personal abilities of student-athletes of a transitioning Division I rugby program with a first varsity season beginning Fall 2022.

Responsibilities

COACHING• Coach Rugby in a substantive manner that is consistent with the educational mission of the University. • Engage in ethical and values-based coaching in order to develop the character and the skill of the University’s student-athletes. • Possess a thorough knowledge of rugby, a sophisticated understanding of coaching strategies, and a demonstrated ability to enhance player development. • Effectively operate a competitive Division I Women’s Rugby program.

RECRUITING • Recruiting skills: ability to identify and successfully recruit student athletes within the framework of the University guidelines and policies.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES• Work effectively with administrators, the support staff, and other coaches and programs within the Department of Athletics. • Communicate effectively with various institutional constituencies (e.g., faculty, administration, students, parents, staff, alumni and friends) in order to strengthen programmatic integration with the University. • Continue the development and oversight of the Friends Group.• Adhere to Ivy League, ECAC and NCAA rules and regulations. • Ability to uphold the commitment to Department of Athletics mission of Education Through Athletics and the values that define what it means to Be A TIGER.

Qualifications

• Successful background as a rugby coach. • Excellent organizational skills. • Good oral and written communication skills. • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage team dynamics. • Demonstrated organizational ability for practice and recruiting. • An understanding of the fundamental role that intercollegiate athletics, properly implemented, can play in the educational development of our student-athletes. • Successfully pass NCAA recruiting examination within one month of hire. • Functional computer skills. • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification subsequent to the date of hire. • USA Rugby Level 100 and 200 certification or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications include:• Advanced degree. • Competitive experience at the collegiate level. • Coaching at the collegiate level.
