Scion Announces Roster for 7s Nationals

  • 07 Aug 2019

2018 runner-up Scion Rugby Academy has announced its roster to the USA Rugby Club 7s National Championship in Kansas City, Mo., Aug. 10-11. The Sirens will compete in Pool B against fellow 7s-only programs Washington Athletic Club, Santa Barbara Academy and Rocky Mountain Magic.

Eight players return from last year’s 2nd-place team, and that continuity goes a long way. Expect major leadership roles filled by players like Lauren Rhode and captains Maggie Myles and Saskia Morgan. They’re backed by veterans Dana Meschisi, Jade McGrath and Emily Fulbrook. All six have represented Scion at the previous two national championships in addition to many more tournaments in their multi-year careers in the electric green jersey.

Nate Serevi and Katie Lutton have returned from injury and back into the starting squad. Serevi featured at the 2019 Super Series, playing in the forwards for the USA 15s team; while Lutton, who competed at 2017 nationals, drew a “player to watch” alert from Scion director Joanne Liu.

On the younger end, age wise, is Dartmouth Class of 2019 graduate Camille Johnson and current grad student Milla Anderson, who is making her first appearance in a senior 7s championship. Traveling reserve and capped Eagle Annakaren Pedraza also ended a trophy-studded career with Lindenwood University this spring. The trio have been fixtures at the reigning NIRA and DI Elite national champions, respectively.

Ally Gallagher is a year removed from Eckerd College and resumes her spot on the D.C.-based team. She plays her regular-season rugby with DI Philadelphia, while Nikki Snyder boots up with DII Harrisburg during 15s season. Snyder just returned from Greeley, Colo., and led the DI/DII Club All-Stars in a 3rd place performance. The capped 7s Eagle didn’t play on the summer side but has represented Scion in Barbados, New York and Atlanta.
