The Tri-State Rugby Conference is the latest collegiate competition to halt the fall 15s season due to the health and safety implications of Covid-19. The league, which accounts for 19 schools in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York, announced the suspension on July 31 (read the full release).

“The situation will be monitored and should circumstances change it may be possible to have a Spring Season,” Tri-State commissioner Tony Brown wrote. “Please take care, wear a mask and socially distance.”

Brown also noted that teams would not be charged dues this academic year.

Tri-State was one of four conferences that aligned with the American Rugby College Rugby Association (ACRA), which revived after USA Rugby went bankrupt and now accounts for more than 60 teams in the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions. Two days prior to Tri-State’s decision, the second-largest conference – New England Wide – announced its canceled fall. The Mid-Atlantic and Rugby Northeast conferences have also had the majority of its members’ athletic departments suspend fall sports.
