The USA Club Rugby Super Regional Championships (SRCs) are set — save one exception — for women’s DI, DII and DIII competitions. The Atlantic SRC held its semifinals last Saturday, and the Gulf Coast, Northern and Pacific finalized their lineups after a slew of league finals last weekend.

DIVISION I

To recap the already decided: Pittsburgh Forge is the Midwest champ (or, NORTHERN Super Regional champion) and advanced directly to the DI national semifinals on May 17-19 in Texas. The other three semifinalists will be determined on May 4, and now those matches know their contenders:

  • Heading into the weekend, the GULF COAST had already determined which teams would duke out of the Super Regional title match: Rocky Mountain’s Utah Vipers and Texas’ Houston. They report to Austin, Texas, on May 4.
  • The PACIFIC title is a rematch between San Diego and Seattle. The former repeated as SoCal champ after a 52-0 win against Tempe on Saturday. Seattle shut out ORSU 60-0 to take the Pacific Northwest championship. On that same day, Seattle sent a team to its B.C. Premier match against the Castaway Wanderers, and the loss meant no post-season in the Canadian league. Seattle can now focus energies on the USA Club Rugby postseason pathway and will see San Diego on May 4 in Las Vegas.
  • The ATLANTIC championship is between NOVA and Philadelphia. The former hosted Providence in last Saturday’s semifinals and triumphed 81-14. Philly traveled to Boston for its semifinal returned to Pennsylvania with a 39-14 W. The teams will meet each other for a third time this season (NOVA won the first two games) on May 4 in Wilmington, Del.

ATLANTIC DII

The Atlantic SRC held its first round of playoffs on Saturday, and now the finals in all divisions have been set for Saturday, May 4 in Wilmington, Del. CAPITAL champion Severn River hosted EMPIRE champion New Haven and put in a strong 43-8 performance. Meanwhile, EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA’s Phoenixville traveled to Canton, Mass., to face NEW ENGLAND champion Albany and won 48-10. It’s worth noting that the three EPRU teams competing in DI, DII and DIII teams won their respective Atlantic semifinals, and on the road.

Next up … May 4 final between Severn River and Phoenixville, with the winner advancing to the national championship semifinals/final on May 18-19 in Austin, Texas.

GULF COAST DII

Tampa Bay won its third straight FLORIDA DII title and did so with an undefeated record and 41-17 final win against Ft. Miami. The Krewe will face CAROLINAS champion Charleston, also a repeat titleholder. The Hurricanes trailed Atlanta 2.0 fifteenp-0 at halftime and then rallied with 24 unanswered points in the second half to victory. On the other side of the bracket, Knoxville had already secured its TRUE SOUTH championship on April 14 and now the reigning national champion knows its Super Regional semifinal opponent: Dallas Harlequins. The RED RIVER champion first beat Houston 96-0, while Little Rock shut out San Antonio 50-0 in Saturday’s semis. Today, Quins kept its unscored-upon weekend intact with a 29-0 final win against the Stormers.

PACIFIC DII

In the Pacific SRC, there are two returners and two newcomers for 2024. Sacramento reclaimed its NORCAL two weekends ago, a title that is named on standings points and that came down to point differential for the Amazons. Also back in Las Vegas is the PACIFIC NORTHWEST’s Portland. The Pigs beat Emerald City 47-14 in Saturday’s final. The newcomers included SRC host Las Vegas, which defeated 2023 SOUTHWEST champion Albuquerque 45-19 in Sante Fe, N.M., on Saturday. And then the Los Angeles Rugby Club (LARC) closed out a fab first season with a 38-25 win against Ventura to claim the SOCAL title and berth to Vegas on May 4-5.

NORTHERN DII

No changes in the Northern SRC yet. MIDWEST’s South Buffalo and Grand Rapids played competitive friendlies last weekend, and St. Louis ran out for a third time against KC Jazz (72-7 win), though the Sabres had already claimed its MID-AMERICA berth to regionals. The question mark is the ROCKY MOUNTAIN rep, but hopefully that champion, which is named on standings, will become known soon.

SF: St. Louis v Grand Rapids

DIVISION III

The Atlantic is the only Super Region with a competition for its DIII women’s club members, and the trophy is now down to two teams: New Jersey’s Union County and Maryland’s North Bay. The former has been the EMPIRE champion for three years now, and it fell short to the South Shore Sirens in last year’s finale. On Saturday, the Mudturtles traveled to Capital champion Frederick and battled out a 29-24 semifinal victory. On the opposite side of the bracket, first-year North Bay hosted South Shore and the Capital champion took the win 45-5. End-of-season title match occurs May 4 in Wilmington, Del.
