USA Rugby

eagles.rugby — With just two changes to the starting roster, the USA Women’s National Team (WNT) is ready to roll the momentum it has built across the WXV Global Series into the fall-test finale against England. The Friday, Oct. 30 match is part of a doubleheader with the USA Men and Australia XV, which follow the women’s international match inside Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, N.J. Tickets still available. The game will also livestream on Paramount+ and CBS Sports Network.

The only remaining undefeated team in the series, the USA Women take on the reigning Rugby World Cup champion this Friday at 5:10 p.m. ET. The Eagles are riding a five-game winning streak, which began six weeks ago in Dublin.

“We’re coming into this match with momentum,” USA Rugby Women’s National Team Head Coach Jack Hanratty said. “It’s at the end of a 7-8-week tour, and we are still energetic, our training sessions are still high quality, and the fact that we get to play at home against the world champions will be an incredible end to this squad’s first year of what hopefully will be an incredible four-year cycle.”

England has gone 2-2-1 this fall block, beating New Zealand and Australia, and going 0-2-1 against Canada. The Red Roses (see match-day squad) will be eager to end the transatlantic tour on a high.

“I think England will put out an incredibly strong team to try to show the world that they’re still number one,” Hanratty said. “And to do that would be not only winning a game, but showing dominance in everything. Our job this week is to challenge them.

“We want to see what aspects of the game we have grown and that we can challenge the world’s best,” he added. “That’s our job.”

There has been one change to the starting pack that faced Italy in Nashville last week. Hope Rogers moves from the bench to the starting front row, replacing Lauryn Carlton, who scored on debut in Tennessee. Carlton has retained a spot on the roster as a reserve. Co-captain Georgie Perris-Redding will continue to set the tone from strong side flanker, while fellow co-captain Erica Jarrell-Searcy will be that impact energy off the bench.

There has also been one change in the back line, as Abigail Paton replaces Taina Tukuafu at scrumhalf. Cass Bargell will be the replacement nine should that substitution occur, and she is joined by new bench additions in Mona Tupou and Tessa Hann this Friday.
