WPL Challenge Match

D.C. is Life West’s challenge match opponent

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) suspended its promotion/relegation process when it expanded to 10 teams, allowing the league to adjust to its new shape and provide some comfort for the two new teams. The process was reinstated for the WPL’s 10th season, and two-time reigning DI club champion Life West made its intentions known for a challenge match. The Gladiatrix worked with the WPL to play the Harlequins in Atlanta, Surfers in San Diego during the fall, and have a Nov. 17 match scheduled against Berkeley.

But as of the WPL national championship Oct. 26-28, logistics for the challenge match had yet to be decided. The WPL held its AGM on Monday and then notified both Life West and 10th-place D.C. Furies that the challenge match would occur Nov. 10 in Atlanta.

Life West is shocked by the 10 days’ notice, given the months of requesting details, and has sought confirmation from USA Rugby. More to come.
