The traditional leaders in the Colonial Coast women’s rugby conference got to work last weekend, winning their opening league games in the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) small college division. Endicott College defeated a tough Plymouth State 22-12, and Salve Regina defeated Univ. Maine Farmington 52-17.
Endicott College is the reigning conference champion and advanced to last year’s NCR Small College 15s playoffs. The Gulls beat Middlebury College in the Round of 16 before falling to eventual finalist SUNY Cortland in the quarterfinals. On Saturday, Endicott traveled two hours north from Massachusetts to New Hampshire and banked the bonus-point win in the 22-12 effort. Seniors Kylie Breen, Elektra Cheney and Cassidy McElhinney, and sophomore Tess Merrill scored the tries. Cheney kicked a conversion for seven points on the day.
Victoria McDuffee and Hannah Pasquerello scored the tries for Plymouth State, and Isabelle Lord added the conversion.
