DII College Spring Playoff Update

We’ve seen a draft of the USA Rugby DII College Spring Championship playoff brackets, but at this point, it’d do more harm than good to circulate it. There are a few adjustments that need to be made, and that could switch up the Round of 16 matches.

The western pool has been confirmed, as the Cascade’s Eastern Washington has passed on an at-large play-in opportunity against the West Coast runner-up. So two West Coast teams (determined this weekend in Monterey, Calif.) will join the Pacific Desert’s Claremont and CSU Long Beach at the Irvine location for regionals.

Little Rock was slated for two SIRC teams and two Mid-America teams. SIRC champion Tulane confirmed that it is attending, but third-place Georgia Tech has backed out citing numbers. Mid-America is only holding a league final, so John Brown and Kansas State will both advance and play for seed this Sunday in Columbia, Mo.

Greenville, N.C., is hosting two pools of four. Combined, this site initially listed three teams apiece from the Capital and Carolinas conferences, and one apiece from Florida and SIRC.

The only question is Carolinas, as the league is only holding a final between College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina this Saturday. Both teams will advance to regionals but that third seed needs filling. Salisbury, George Washington and William & Mary were the top finishers in Capital; Eckerd is Florida champ; and runner-up UGA will represent SIRC.

Stay tuned for coverage on the Carolinas, Mid-America and West Coast championships this weekend.
