USA Women’s National Team (WNT) head coach Rob Cain has made no changes to the match-day 23 for the Eagles’ Rugby World Cup quarterfinal against Canada. The North American rivals see each other for the second week in a row, with kickoff at 11:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 29. Peacock TV is live-streaming the match.
Canada beat the USA 29-14 to win Pool B, and fortuitously or not, the reseeding for knockouts produced the Saturday rematch.
“Last week was full of drama, big collisions with lots of exciting rugby, and some key learnings for both teams who share an intense rivalry,” USA WNT head coach Rob Cain said. “We very much expect this weekend to offer even more and we know we will have to be even better, as too will Canada. Reaching the quarterfinal of a Rugby World Cup, especially with many of the challenges we have faced, is a great achievement in itself.
“We are happy to be at this stage of the tournament, but we aren’t satisfied just yet,” Cain added. “Sunday is a real opportunity for this group. Each week with the more time we have had together, we have shown more in each performance. We are under no illusions at the task at hand but we know exactly what is needed to reverse the result from last weekend. We can’t wait to continue to represent the whole USA Rugby family on such a great world stage.”
Canada is mostly the same squad since last weekend, with one starting roster change in prop Olivia DeMerchant: Read more.
It’s a win-or-go-home scenario, and the victor will play the winner of England vs. Australia in the semifinals, to be held Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
