Both San Diego State University and Claremont Colleges had followed incredible paths to the College Rugby Association of America (CRAA) DII Spring 15s Championship. The former was closing out its first complete season as a team, and the latter had accepted an at-large bid to the tournament just a week prior to kickoff. The final was made even more poignant, as the game was a rematch of arguably the most important regular-season match of the DII spring season.
