Remember that the collective term, “high school nationals,” refers to two rugby events occurring across May 17-19 in Madison, Wis. On Friday-Saturday, May 17-18, the high school CLUB teams compete, and on Saturday-Sunday, May 18-19, the SINGLE-SCHOOL teams compete. It all happens at the Wisconsin Rugby Sports Complex. Be sure to download the handy app for the combined event, which will be a great hub for all live updates (all times listed in Central). The High School Club National 15s Tournament has the complex all to itself on Friday, and six teams in two pools of three are vying for the Tier 1 title. There were some late drops that condensed this competition, as Idaho’s Rocky Mountain and Michigan’s Sparta-Rock (which will separate out into two different programs next year, as Rockford HS will be supporting a school-based team next year) withdrew.
Nonetheless, there is no want for competition in this bracket, which spans east and west coasts. Teams will play two pool play games on Friday, setting up placing matches on Saturday. The pools’ 3rd-place teams compete for 5th; 2nd-place teams compete for 3rd; and pool winners compete for the trophy.
