The Ivy League announced today that it has canceled all fall sports, meaning eight universities will not compete in 2020:

Ivy League institutions are implementing campus-wide policies including restrictions on student and staff travel, requirements for social distancing, limits on group gatherings, and regulations for visitors to campus. As athletics is expected to operate consistent with campus policies, it will not be possible for Ivy League teams to participate in intercollegiate athletics competition prior to the end of the fall semester.

Three Ivy League teams compete in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA), the country’s NCAA varsity women’s rugby league. Harvard University is the reigning Tier 1 national champion and joins DIII national champion Bowdoin College in its inability to defend its title this fall. Brown University and Dartmouth College are also DI NIRA programs.

The Ivy League rugby conference disbanded its women’s club competition beginning with the 2020-21 season, forcing Cornell University (Upstate New York), Columbia University (Tri-State), Princeton University (independent), University of Penn (Mid-Atlantic) and Yale University (TBD) to find new rugby homes.
