Life Sweeps D.C. Road Trip

PRESS RELEASE – The Life University women’s rugby team finished the DC road trip a perfect 3-0 over the weekend with wins over USA Rugby South All-Stars, Capital Selects and Penn State.The Running Eagles began the weekend with a 21-17 win over the USA Rugby South All-Stars. The varsity team took the first 45 minutes on the pitch as the reserve squad finished out the contest. Kayla Pemasa dotted down the first try for the Running Eagles as Jess Keating slotted the conversion for an early 7-0 lead. Scoring was at a premium for both teams in the first half as Life U took a 7-0 lead into the half. Coming out in the second half, South responded with a score off a turnover in a Life U line out. Autumn Locicero extended the lead with another successful conversion from Keating for a 14-5 scoreline. Spiff Sedrick added the final Life U try to give the Running Eagles a 21-5 advantage. Life U was able to hold on to secure the opening victory in the road trip.In game two of the first day, Life U defeated the Capital Selects 35-5 as Keating continued to make all of her conversions she attempted. Susan Adegoke opened the scoring with a try and a successful Keating conversion. Adrionna Duncan kept up the Running Eagle pressure with a score of her own as Life U led 14-0. Saher Hamdan added the final try in the first half to put the Running Eagles ahead 21-0. Summer Harris-Jones came out of the gate with a try as Morgan Crossfield followed with a huge team effort to put Life U ahead 35-0. The Selects ended the contest with a try as Life U earned the dominant victory to finish day one.In the final contest of the road trip, Life U matched up with a familiar opponent in Penn State. The Running Eagles earned the 28-12 win over the Nittany Lions for a 3-0 weekend. The match was featured as the opener for the Old Glory, the MLR franchise out of DC. Paige Fallon put Life U on the board early, but another costly line out turnover led to Penn State tying the match at seven heading into halftime. Hamdan added her second try of the weekend as Life U ran through the phases with a good offensive possession to take the advantage as Keating added another conversion to her tally. Sedrick followed the score with her second of the weekend on a counter attack to put the Running Eagles ahead 21-7 with the Keating conversion. Adegoke added the final Life U try, her second of the weekend, as Life U extended the lead to 28-7. Penn State managed one try in the remainder of the match to give Life U the 28-12 win to finish the weekend 3-0. Keating finished the weekend a perfect 12-for-12 on conversions as Pemasa, Hamdan, Sedrick and Adegoke each earned a pair of tries. The women’s rugby team will return to action on Saturday, February 22 as they travel to UCF for a pair of matches at 11 AM and 1 PM.
