The Pacific Northwest (PNW) Loggers is the USA Rugby National Development Program (NDP) for the region, and the girls’ program is heading to Canada this weekend for its first international 15s games. The Loggers’ Girls Director of Rugby, Heidi Whitman, has assembled U16 and U18 teams that will travel to the Univ. British Columbia in Vancouver, where they face the B.C. Selects on Saturday, July 16.

Washington-based Whitman accepted the DOR position in early 2022 (read more) and has coordinated with Oregon (Toni Fujiwara) thus far in building a regional 15s setup for high schoolers. Next steps intend to further engage fellow Pacific Northwest states Idaho and Montana, and more formally launch the U23s, which jump-started its existence with a last-minute call-up to the new all-star competition in June (read more). Washington and Oregon held a 15s series in June, which allowed the combined Loggers staff to select U16 and U18 teams for this Saturday’s international matches. More summer fixtures also await.
There are 34 players across the two teams, and they hail from 13 teams across Oregon and Washington. The Saturday games occur on UBC’s Wolfson Field, with the U16s taking the pitch at 11:30 a.m. PDT and the U18s following at 1:30 p.m.
