Newberry College is one of four NCAA varsity women’s rugby programs making its debut in the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) this fall, but the South Carolina program is the only one that is also a completely new program. D1 Princeton and D2 Davenport existed as club teams prior to varsity elevation, and Guilford College started training in 2019 before the pandemic introduced a dormancy.
